Council Members
SanchezLyn Roberts-Sanchez
Position 1

My name is Lyn Roberts-Sanchez and I am currently City Council Member, Position #1.  I have been part of the Wapato City Council since January of 2006, just a short 7+ months.  I was born and raised in Wapato, graduated from Wapato High School in 1967, from Eastern Washington University with a Bachelor’s Degree in Music/Reading Education and from the University of Puget Sound with a Master's Degree in School Administration.  I taught school for 7 years and spent the last 18 years of my career as a school principal.  I retired as principal of Wapato High School in 2003.  Upon retirement I opened My Stars Academy and Tutoring Center and have been thoroughly enjoying teaching students, K-12, at my center.  I am married to Oscar Sanchez who is currently a school counselor at Wapato Middle School.  We have 3 daughters and 3 sons, five of whom live in the Yakima Valley.  We are privileged to have 13 grandchildren.

I decided to run for a City Council because I want to see Wapato come back to life.  I want everyone in our city to have a voice and I want young people actively involved in the process of rejuvenating our town. I want to see our local artisans and dancers highlighted in a Liberty Theater Performing Arts Center.  I am focused on Wapato becoming a tourist destination and having a unique theme and identity that fits the multi-cultural strength of our people.  There is so much to look forward to and we need each of you to help in this effort to make Wapato of the "Heart of the Valley".
